Having been interested in muzik from a very early age, Ric was introduced to the early hardcore dance scene whilst still in school. “I remember sitting with the older lads on a Sunday morning after my paper round. They would park behind the shops listening to their newest kinetic tapes after a nights raving, it never seemed odd to me that they were wide awake at 7 on a sunday morning or that they were dancing around to the car stereo, I just wanted to be involved!” he remembers. At around this time a chance meeting with another young muzik lover resulted in a long lasting friendship and dj/production partnership with the infamous DJ Rennie. Years of fighting for tape packs and recording shows off the radio followed for the pair.

Aged 16 Ric bought his first set of turntables. Before long the budding DJ was playing regularly both locally and further a field. It wasn’t long before He took the natural step and turned his hand to promotion either. Along with DJ Rennie, Ric promoted and DJ’d at many nights around the uk including events in Sheffield, Birmingham and Manchester, most notably their own highly successful Euphoria nights held at Sankeys Soap during 1997. Since the early days Ric has been fascinated by electronic dance muzik and the technology that helps us to create it.

Aged 18, University beckoned. Having spent an unsuccessful year in Sheffield pursuing a business degree but in actuality making the most of the towns vibrant nightlife Ric enrolled on a course of study at Salford University on their well respected Professional Sound Technology HND program. This was the missing link for the young dj/producer, still actively DJ’ing Ric began to see how it all fitted together and the possibilities the studio offered him. From this point on, Ric threw himself into production in the same way he had DJ’ing 3 years earlier and began to develop a diverse range of skills including Live Recording, Live Sound, Midi/Music Technology and Production skills.

Since university Ric has kept up with his various sound related projects. At the end of 2002 he took some time off from the the DJ’ing circuit to study turntablism. This time out he feels, has given him a better understanding of what the “tables” can do and an increased element of control when stood behind them.

More recently, Ric continues to DJ regularly around the area, also running a small home studio where he continues to concentrate mainly on dance muzik production; Ric also does some mastering work for local DJs and some engineering work at LP studios ( Stockport)

In future Ric plans to continue to focus on computer based dance muzik and developing his own style of Dirty tech house Muzik, as well as working on his new collaboration with DJ Rennie - www.housemuzik.co.uk is a new and exciting website for house/dance muzik Dj’s/Producers and perhaps most importantly anyone who loves housemuzik. “My first love and my hobby since the age of 16 has always been DJ’ing” He says. “however I see my work in the studio as an extension of that! I’m always thinking when I make a track about how it would go down on the dance floor. After all the dance floor is where I came from and its still where I want to be!”
